STEPS OF AUDIT IN LARGE COMMERCIAL COMPLEX

Following are the steps required to be followed, if you want to carry out an Energy audit:

  1. Define the scope and boundary of the audit.
  2. Establish the base line and year of the energy consumption.
  3. Carry out a walk-down audit for quick assessment.
  4. Have a detailed discussion with the team and note down their suggestions.
  5. Organize a meeting with the top management and form and form an Energy Efficiency cell.
  6. Sensitize all employees about upcoming energy audit and it's benefits, so that you get co-operation
  7. Have a detailed building plan showing the illuminations, HVAC system, Elevators, Air compressors etc.
  8. Get all technical data as mentioned in point no.7
  9. Chalk out a detailed audit plan with the target major energy consumption reduction areas.
  10. Conduct a detailed audit and submit report to the top management with special emphasis on benefits low hanging fruits.

In most of the cases of Energy Audit, we don’t try to sensitize most of the employees.

But if most of the employees can be sensitized about Energy audit and Energy Conservation, I strongly believe that Energy Efficiency will be achieved at faster rate.

Apart from the above, there are following major benefits can also be achieved:

In my past 36 plus years of experience in Energy & Power generation field, I have found that in recent days of Mall culture, there is multi-fold increase in Specialty hospitals and Large residential complexes, there is huge opportunity for:

1) Using green power, which will partly replace the fossil fuel power. This will reduce the GHG emission and contribute to reduction of Global warming.

2) Green power can be purchased power or installation of solar panels.

3) Huge scope of saving water resources by utilizing smart sensors. Carrying out detailed water foot print audit and saving potential of water resources.

4) HVAC is a major area where power utilization is significantly high. Coupled with this, opened doors of malls & hostpitals add load on HVAC systems.

This can be easily handles by using SMART sensors at the entrance & exit doors OR using Air Curtains.

Though air curtains will also utilize electrical power, hence if the power can be sourced by installed solar power system, then it will be advisable.

Otherwise, it is advisable to utilize SMART sensors.
