Emotional Agility (Ability to think and understand quickly): The Key to a Successful Life

Emotional agility is the ability to navigate life’s challenges with flexibility, resilience, and self-awareness.

Being agile means having the ability to create and respond to change — it’s a way how to approach this dynamic environment with success.

It’s about acknowledging our emotions, to understand their significance, and to respond in a way that aligns with our FOCUS and long-term goals.

Our ability to improve the effectiveness of dealing with our emotions, which ultimately affects our whole life is most important for success.

In a world that constantly evolving on adaptation and growth, emotional agility is crucial factor for achieving success in all fields of life.

Susan David, a Harvard Medical School psychologist has found out that the happiest people have exactly the same stresses and setbacks as anyone else. However, the major difference is that they learnt how to come out from damaging patterns of thoughts and behavior until they became emotionally agile.

Susan David's process

Susan David has said process of gaining emotional agility in four essential movements:
Showing Up – means facing into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors willingly, with curiosity and kindness.
Stepping Out – detaching from and observing them to see them for what they are just thoughts, just emotions
Walking Your Why – these small decision moments choice points. Your core values provide the compass that keeps you moving in the right direction.
Moving On – research actually supports the opposite view: that small, deliberate tweaks infused with your values can make a huge difference in your life.

Emotionally agile people are dynamic.

They demonstrate flexibility in dealing with our complex world.

They can tolerate high levels of stress and face the setbacks while remaining engaged, open, and receptive.

They also experience feelings of anger and sadness like all normal people, but they face them with inner boldness.

Viktor Frankl, the famous Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, wrote:

“Between stimulus and response, there’s a space. And in that space is our power to choose our response.”

Responses can be PROACTIVE & REACTIVE.
